Special "Mediterranean Ethnic" Prog & Roll radio show, with special guest Yossi Sassi (ex-Orphaned Land).

I’m writing this post to inform you that on this Sunday 18/9/16 Prog & Roll radio show will have as “special guest on the chat-box” Yossi Sassi, the leader and heart & soul of the Israelian Ethnic Metal band Orphaned Land, who is now following a solo career.
From our behalf, we prepared a special and musically different show, during which we are going to play some parts of the interview we took from him, together with a few songs from his new – and very good – album Roots and Roads. (You can read a post I wrote about this album some time ago here: http://gfreedomathina.blogspot.gr/2016/07/yossi-sassi-band-roots-and-roads-2016.html
So, this Sunday’s Prog & Roll will be divided into 3 major parts: The first half hour, during which we are going to play songs from modern Rock styles, such as Stoner, etc. Next, we will have the 2nd and 3rd half hours, during which we will have a Mediterranean & Middle Eastern Ethnic/Fork Rock part, and the 4rth and last half hour, during which we will play some classic Progressive Rock from the 70’s.
We will also have our usual music quiz once more, and the winner will win one copy of Yossi Sossi’s new album as a prize.
So, if on this Sunday afternoon you are in the mood for a friendly radio show with nice and interesting music, tune in to Prog & Roll. Our show begins at 20.00 UK time and lasts for 2 hours. The broadcasting is mostly in English, but also Greek as well.

I hope to “see” some of you online.
Have a nicee Weekend!
Thank you!

IAN ANDERSON performing 'The Best of Jethro Tull' live in Athens (1/10/2016)

If you are living or visiting Athens as a tourist, here's a concert you shouldn't miss!
The legendary Ian Anderson, the heart & soul of Jethro Tull will give a single live performance on Saturday the 1st of October in Athens. The concert is entitled as 'The Best of Jethro Tull', so we get a main idea of what to expect.
I have seen Jethro Tull on stage enough times in the past, (4 times I think), but I will definitely attend this concert. I already bought my ticket, and I can't wait!
Speaking of tickets, there are some still available, as far as I know at least, and the prices are between 30 - 45€.
Myself, I bought the 45€ ticket, and I will be sitting in the 4th row from the stage.
In case you are interested, here’s the link for the tickets:

The first Prog & Roll radio show of the 5th season... A few info and the complete playlist.

Hello all!
Last night the first Prog & Roll of the 5th season took place, as I have announced in a previous post, a few days ago.
I dare say that it was a very good and fun show, and as it seemed the people enjoy it a lot.
We had some surprises for our listeners, with the most important one being the presence and participation of the English musician Benjamin Bell and his wife's Emily to the show. They travelled from England to Athens for a short holiday, and they joined our show as co-hosts.  Further that that, Ben prepared a small music trivia game, which we played with our listeners, and the 2-3 winners will take as a prize Ben's new CD, that is going to be released in October.
I was very happy to see that we had a rather big crowd listening, most of them our old and faithful listeners, but also some new ones as well.
We have some good – I hope – plans for this new season, but I’m not going to reveal anything yet. You’ll have to wait a little bit for that.
At this point I would like to thank Ben and Emily for coming to Athens, so we could meet and have this show together. I think we had some great time! Also, a very big thanks to all of you who tuned in last night. Be sure that we will try to make Prog & Roll even better and more enjoyable than already is.
Here you can see the complete playlist:
Part 1: DEEP PURPLE: High Ball Shooter / BLUE OYSTER CULT: Joan Crawford / GLENN HUGHES: In My Blood / IRON MAIDEN: 22 Acacia Avenue / DIO: Wild one.
Part 2: BRIAN MAY: Back to the Light / PINK FLOYD: Take it Back / DIFFERENT LIGHT: Voice of Outside / QUEEN: Innuendo / RUSH: The Trees.
Part 3: J. ANDERSON / R. STOLT: Owner of a Lonely Heart (Music Quiz) / TRANSATLANTIC: Bridge Across Forever / PATCHWORK CACOPHONY: Choises  / ORPHANED LAND: Freedom.

Prog & Roll Radio show enters its 5th season with a special show and a special guest in the studio…

Hello all! :-)
I’m glad to announce that the internet radio show Prog & Roll is entering its 5th season with a very special and enjoyable show on this Sunday 11th of September.
After our Summer break, we are back full of energy and nice ideas for the show. So, the first Prog & Roll of this season will take place on this Sunday at the usual 20.00 UK time, on the usual internet radio: www.justincaseradio.com
But that’s not all. We will have the pleasure  to have with us in the studio the English musician and composer Benjamin Bell together with his wife Emily, who travelled from England to
Athens in order to meet us, participate in the show, and spend a few days here. Ben and Emily are some of our most faithful listeners, and we are very excited to have them with us in the show. We prepared Sunday’s playlist together, which I believe is a very enjoyable one; but further than that, we also prepared a small “trivia” game which we are going to play with our listeners.
So, if this Sunday evening you are free and in the mood for some nice music, tune in to our show and maybe join our warm and friendly chat-box as well.
Prog & Roll begin at 20.00 UK time, and the broadcasting is mostly in English but also Greek as well.
I hope to “see” some of you online.
Thank you!

TV Series: Outlander (Starz) (Seasons 1 & 2)

                           WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD.
Having nothing to watch while I was waiting for the 2nd season of ‘Narcos’ to come out, I decided to give Outlander a try. I read a few things about the story, it seemed kind of interesting, and the fact that it had to do with Scotland and it was filmed in the highlands made me watch it. I am obviously not a Scot, but I have been to this wonderful country, and spend almost one week in the highlands, in several places actually. Despite it was August, everything was so green and beautiful that it took my breath (and mind) away. Well, up to a point I could bet that this series wasn’t filmed there! I don’t remember seeing so much grey and brown and faded yellow colours in the Highlands. (Later on the landscape becomes more “Scottish”). Maybe I’m wrong, so don’t take it into consideration.
Better take a look a closer look to the series itself:
Outlander is based on a series of books, which I haven’t read, nor plan to do it. (Especially now). The main story is about Claire Randall, a young woman serving as a nurse in the 2nd World War, who has somehow travelled back in time and found herself in 1743 in Scotland. So far so good… There, she tries to adapt herself, having at the back of her mind to find a way to return “back to the future” and to her husband Frank. But things become complicated when she is taken by a Scottish clan, and at the same time she is hunted down by Jack Randall an officer of the British army, who is actually her husband’s ancestor. In order to avoid her capture by the British army, she is “forced” to marry Jamie Frazer a handsome (of course) Scottish warrior and a Clan laird, and from that point and on her life takes a different turn.
This is the whole story more or less written in a serious manner.
[On a lighter and funnier approach, the whole story could summarize to something like that: The books are written by a woman, and as it seems, their main target is the female audience. That is something that is becoming clear from the start, and many times it looked like a teenage girl's wet dream. So far the series followed that tough, smart (but not so smart as it turns out) and constantly horny 20th century woman who accidentally travels back in time. She spends her time thinking mostly about two things: 1. How to travel back to her time and to her husband. 2. When to bang Gingerguy (who is obviously not her husband). The series asks us intriguing questions such as: - Will she sleep with Gingerguy? (Just kidding, of course she will) - When will she sleep with him? (After almost 6 weeks) - How awesome is Gingerguy actually? (Very awesome, obviously, what did you expect? He is the hero after all).]
If I want to be honest with you and myself, I must say that I did enjoy some episodes, but there were some times that I was struggling to continue. Also, I can’t understand why they focused for almost 2 whole episodes on that homosexual prison rape. Yes, it was including some very intense scenes, (I fast forwarded most of them), but spending almost 2 hours on that subject was a little too much for me.
Also, despite that I really enjoyed the last 2-3 episodes of the second season, I don’t think I will continue watching it.
So, let’s sum up: Outlander’s first 2 seasons are including 29 episodes in total, with each episode being almost an hour long. (The only exception is the 29th episode, which was almost 90 minutes long). As it seems, Outlander is more of a “female friendly” series, and you will understand that if you read the viewer’s reviews on the internet. The production and the filming are excellent, the scenery is gorgeous, but mostly because Scotland is gorgeous! So, I will give a 10 out of 10 for Scotland, but I don’t think I could give more that 6.5 - 7.0 for Outlander.

                          IMDB’s rating is 8.5 out of 10.00
