PROG & ROLL Radio Show (11/10/2015). A "review" and the full playlist...

Hello all!
Last night one more Prog & Roll radio show was online as usual.
First of all I should say that in my opinion, it was a really great show, and I believe everybody enjoyed it to the maximum. We had many people in the chatbox, and many more who were just listening. The chatbox was on fire, and from time to time we had lots of fun.
As for the music we played, what we did was that we divided the 2 - hour show into 4 half - hour parts, and on each part we played different styles of music. In the first part, we played songs from the German music scene of the '70's, on the 2nd one we made a tribute to the musicians who collaborated with Richie Blackmore and their personal careers, on the 3rd one we had some melodic Prog Folk songs, and for the finale we kept some powerful Metal songs.
Here you can take a look at the whole playlist:
Part 1: BIRTH CONTROL: Gamma Ray / ELOY: Future City / ANYONE’S DAUGHTER: Swedish Nights / TRIUMVIRAT: The School of Instant Pain.
Part 2: DEEP PURPLE: Demon’s Eye / PAICE, ASHTON & LORD: Ghost Story / GILLAN: Living for the City / WHITESNAKE: Walking in the Shadow of the Blues – Live / RAINBOW: Kill the King.
Part 3: ASTIDIR: Things You Said / THE DECEMBERISTS: The Hazards of Love / MOSTLY AUTUMN: Things that we Notice / KAIPA: World of the Void.
Part 4: BLACK SABBATH: Lonely in the Word / IRON MAIDEN: The Wicker Man / THERION: Prometheus Entfesselt.
"Epic" Song:   QUEENSRYCHE: Suite Sister Mary.
I would like to thank all those who joined our show last night. We really enjoyed your company, and thank you for your love and support! We will "see" you online again on Sunday the 18th of October.

The Sisters of Mercy Live in Athens. (24/10/2015)

One of the most important and influential bands of the music sub-genre that was named as 'Dark -Wave' or 'Gothic Rock', will visit Athens for one and only concert.
The legendary 'The Sisters of Mercy' will perform live at the Fuzz Club on the 24rth of October, and the ticket prices are between 24 - 30€.
As for the setlist, it will be including some of the band's most famous songs, plus a few new unreleased songs. (According to information of course).
For the fans of this kind of music (but not only them), I believe that this concert is a "must go!"!
As for myself, I will try to be there! :-)

TV Series: The Brink (Season 1 - 2015)

Here's the new HBO series that I totally recommend!
'The Brink' is a political satire (not a commedy), which most probably in some ocassions sadly isn't far from the truth.
The main story is about a crisis between United States and Pakistan, but as the story goes on, more countries are being involved in it. (Such as Israel and India for example).
The main characters in the first season are two: A Foreign Service officer in Islamabad,  played by Jack Black, and an alcoholic/womaniser/hysterical Secretary of State, played by Tim Robbins.
I am not a fan of Jack Black, because I don't enjoy his - most of the times - hysterical acting, but I have to admit that in 'The Brink' he is playing his role very well. As for Tim Robbins, well... he is just perfect!
The first season consists of 10 episodes, and each episode has a length of almost 30 minutes. So, in just 3 hours you can watch the whole season.
As far as I know the 2nd season will be in the same style, but it will have to do with a crisis in some other country.
As I wrote at the top of this post, I highly recommed 'The Brink', because it is a very interesting and easy to watch series, including some very good performances. (Especially by Tim Robbins)
My personal rating is:  7.5 out of 10.00
                                IMDB's rating is: 7.9 out of 10.00

Goodies from GFreedom's Music Collection # 21

PAICE, ASHTON & LORD: Malice in Wonderland (1977)
This short-lived project was formed by Jon Lord (Keyboards) and Ian Pace (drums), both members of Deep Purple, after the band's break up in 1976. The band's line up was completed with the addition of the 3 very good, but not so famous - at the time - musicians, Tony Ashton (Guitar, vocals), Paul Martinez (bass) and Bernie Mardsen (Guitar).
If the names of these 3 musicians don't ring any bell, I should inform you that Bernie Mardsen became the basic guitar player in Whitesnake after 'Paice Ashton & Lord' and Paul Martinez was a session musician who worked together with Robert Plant, Maggie Bell and Peter Gabriel among others. As for Tony Ashton, he was Jon Lord's close friend, and during his musical career, he worked with some very big names in Rock music, such as Paul Mc Cartney, Eric Clapton and George Harrison.
The band released only one studio album in 1977, named 'Malice in Wonderland', and the music style here is a mix of Rock, Rhythm & Blues, and Funk. This surely came as a surprise to the fans of Deep Purple (mostly), and maybe that is the reason that the album despite the positive reviews, wasn't a commercial success. The band had in mind the release of one more album, which never happened.
Originally, the album was including 9 songs, and had a total running time of almost 43 minutes. In 1995 the album was re-issued, including 3 live tracks as bonus. 'Malice in wonderland' was released once more as a CD in 2001, but this time was including 8 new songs that were recorded for the band's second album, which as I wrote above  was never released. (Personally, I have the 1995 version, with the 3 live bonus tracks)
'Malice in Wonderland' is a very good and musically interesting album in my opinion, and every Rock music collector should add it in his collection. All the tracks are almost equally good, with one exception: The album's opening song, which is one level above the rest. I'm referring to the rather famous 'Ghost Story'.
By clicking on the following link you can listen to 'Ghost Story', and have an idea about the band's sound.
Enjoy! :-)

PROG & ROLL Radio Show (4/10/2015). A "review" and the full playlist.

Hello all!
Last night one more Prog & Roll radio show was online. This was the 2nd show for the new season (2015-2016), and as we announced we were going to reveal the changes we are going to do in the show from now on. All those who are listening to Prog & Roll for some time now, are familiar with the fact that every now and then we are adding or removing some of the show's elements, in order to make it more and more interesting.
So, for this season we decided the following: The music contest and the "epic" song remains, and we are going to add 2 new elements: The 'Album of the Month' and the 'Listener's Happy Hour'.
Let me explain what are these 2 elements, and how they are going to work:
1. Album of the month: At the first show of each month, we are going to present a specific album, by playing 2-3 songs out of it, and providing interesting information about it. The albums we are going to present will be in most occasions from famous bands, and can be from many different musical genres.
2. Listener's Happy Hour: In order to thank our devoted listeners for the love and support they are showing to us and our show, we created 'listener's happy hour'. In the second hour of the last show of each month, we are going to play their song requests. The only thing they have to do, is send an e- mail to our mailing address, asking for a song they would like to listen to during that hour.
I'm glad to say that everybody seemed to enjoy the new additions, and we already received the first 3-4 e-mails with song requests.
And because last night was the first show of October, we presented the first 'album of the month'. The album we picked to present was 'Fire of Unknown Origin' recorded by Blue Oyster Cult. During the show, we played 3 songs from this album, and we said some interesting - I hope - info about it.
As for our audience, we had many people once more, from many different countries. We had listeners from Greece, Turkey, Northern Ireland, England, France and Mexico.
Last night's playlist was including 19 songs in total, which are the following:

1st Part:VAN MORRISON: Wild Night / TIM BUCKLEY: Move with Me / TRAFFIC: Medicated Goo – Live / JETHRO TULL: Nothing is Easy / CARAVAN: Hello Hello.
2nd Part: BLUE OYSTER CULT: Joan Crawford / THIN LIZY: Chinatown / URIAH HEEP: Love or Nothing / BLUE OYSTER CULT: Burning for You / RORY GALLAGHER: Overnight Bag.
3rd Part: BLUE OYSTER CULT: Veteran of the Psychic Wars (music contest) / MARILLION: He Knows You Know / TALISMA: Dementia / AYREON: Time Beyond Time.
4rth Part: SUPERTRAMP: If Everyone was Listening / ILUSSION: Wings Across the Sea / PROCOL HARUM: Grand Hotel.
"Epic" song:MANFRED MAN’S EARTH BAND: Father of Day, Father of Night.
I would like to thank all those who joined and listened to Prog & Roll last night, and I hope that you enjoyed it.
Thank you! :-)
