The 7th radio season of Prog & Roll begins on Sunday (30/9/2018)

Hello all!
I'm writing this piece in order to inform you that, on this Sunday the 30th of September, the internet radio show Prog & Roll will enter its 7th radio season.
After a long Summer break, it is time for our show to begin again.
We are very happy and kind of excited to be honest, and we can't wait.
We prepared a very interesting show, with songs from many different styles and sub-genres once more, and I hope that our listeners will enjoy it.
Those who are listening to our show on a frequest basis, know very well that, at the beginning of each new season we announce the changes that we will do in the show, and this time is not an exception.
So, on this Sunday, further than the music and the usual fun we will have on the chatbox, we will also announce to our listeners some major and some minor changes that are going to take place in Prog n Roll.
For those who don't know us so far, I should say that Prog & Roll is a live bilingual broadcast, that has listeners from all over the world, including many musicians among them. If you are interested to listen and maybe become a part of it, just click on the following link on Sunday (30/9/2018) at 20.00 UK time (21.00 CET, 22.00 Greek time). www.justincaseradio.com

CLASSIC ROCK (Incl. BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST and 2 Orchestras), Live in Athens. 22/9/2018. The setlists and more...

A few days ago I attended a very special live gig, and I would like to share it with you. So, on Friday the 22nd of September, together with my wife, we went to the ancient Odeon of Herodes Atticus that lies next to the Acropolis of Athens, and spent a very beautiful night together with good music.
The concert plan was the following: First of all, the Greek band TKG appeared on stage and played for almost half an hour. Their set was named as 'Mozart in Colour', and it was including very interesting short cover versions of some of Mozart's works. (Piano Sonata No.11, Symphony No. 40 and Symphony No. 25)
Right after that, The Symphonic Orchestra of Prague and The Athens State Orchestra took their positions on the stage, and the main part of the concert begun. For the next hour, they played some very famous Rock songs in a more "classical" way. With them, they had 3 female singers who were doing the vocals. Some of the songs they played were really wonderful, some others not so much. But the overall result was very good.
Here is the setlist they played:
DEEP PURPLE: Perfect Strangers / LED ZEPPELIN: Kashmir / ALANNAH MYLES: Black Velvet / U2: One / QUEEN: One Vision / LED ZEPPELIN: Stairway to Heaven / PINK FLOYD: Echoes / EUROPE: The Final Countdown / PINK FLOYD: Another Brick in the Wall.
In my opinion, their versions of Perfect Strangers, Kashmir, and Stairway to Heaven were very good ones, and the version of Echoes was simply mind blowing! The others, I didn't like so much...
After a short break, the members of the legendary Barclay James Harvest appeared on stage, and for the next hour they played some of their famous songs, accompanied with The Prague Symphony Orchestra (if I'm not mistaken).
I grew up with the music of Barclay James Harvest, I have seen them on stage 3-4 times in the past, but I was always dreaming to be able to see them on stage together with an orchestra. Especially because their old songs were written to be played like that. And now,  it was the time to fulfil my dream!
So, because I can't be objective when it comes to that, I will not say anything about their performance. I will only say that really enjoyed it, and it was something I will remember for the rest of my life!
But the night wasn't over yet…  Right after the end of the concert, we met with the members of Barclay James Harvest, who I knew from the HRH Prog V concert that I attended last year in N. Wales. They remembered me, and as it seemed they were glad and kind of surprised to see me again. So, we stayed with the guys for almost 45 minutes, had some fun together, took some pictures and we even went backstage for a while. That was the perfect ending to a really beautiful night!
Here is the setlist of Barclay James Harvest:
Fifties Child / Poor Man's Moody Blues / Galadriel / In My Life / Mocking Bird / Loving in Easy / The Poet - After the Day / Hymn.

BRYAN FERRY Live in Athens (11/9/2018). The setlist and more...

A few days ago, Bryan Ferry gave a live gig in Athens at the ancient odeon of Herodes Atticus, that lies in the shadow of Acropolis.
As I wrote in a previous post, I went to see his performance and I must say that it was a very good one! I have seen Bryan Ferry with Roxy Music and solo in the past, so I knew what to expect more or less.
Despite his age (he is over 70 years old), he played for almost 2 hours, and his performance was really good. The setlist was mostly based on songs from his days with Roxy Music, which was a very good thing, especially for people like me who preferes his older stuff.
The theater was packed, since the concert was sold out almost a month before, and as far as I understood everybody enjoyed it.
Because I knew the setlist beforehand, I was kind of surprised with the absence of Do the Strand and the addition of Editions of You in the end...
Here you can check the complete setlist:

The Main Thing (Roxy Music)
Slave To Love
Don't Stop The Dance

DAVID CROSS & DAVID JACKSON: Another Day (2018). My point of view...

I think I should begin this, by introducing these two excellent musicians to those who don’t know them.
David Cross was the violin player of King Crimson, during the years 1972 – 1974 and participated in the albums Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black and Red. Further than King Crimson, he played with many famous musicians and recorded lots of solo albums.
David Jackson has been the saxophone player and a former member of Van Der Graaf Generator, until 2008. He also played with lots of musicians during his long career, like Peter Gabriel and Peter Hammill for example.
This year, the two David’s decided to unite their musical forces and the result was the album Another Day that was released a few months ago.
Another Day is an all-instrumental album, having as basic instruments the electric violin by David Cross and the saxophones of David Jackson, accompanied by bass, keyboards and drums. The style of the album is Jazz-Rock and it is not so easy to listen to, especially if you are not familiar with this specific music style. Personally speaking, I found it difficult to get used to it, and I’m not sure if I can appreciate it to the level it should be appreciated.
There are some beautiful and melodic songs included here, like for example Going Nowhere, Millenium Toll and Anthem for Another Day, mixed with some others more Jazzy ones, which I didn’t like so much to be honest.
I can say that I would recommend this album in general, because, as I wrote above, it’s not an easy one. But there are some wonderful moments, where the talent of those great musicians shine, and for that reason, I will give 3.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Prog n Roll's special show, including the presentation of the Rock Opera Giordano Bruno by OAK is now available on our Mixcloud page.

Hello all!
Near the end of Prog n Roll's previous season, we did a very special show, which was including an extended presentation of the excellent Rock Opera Giordano Bruno by the Italian project OAK. The playlist was including many songs taken from the Rock Opera, but also other songs from modern and older Prog bands and artists.
We had the honour to have on our chatbox many musicians, including Jerry Cutillo, the mastermind behind OAK, Gertrude Roth (his manager), Sonja Kristina of Curved Air, Ben Bell of Gandalf's Fist and David Jackson of Van Der Graaf Generator. We had a very big crowd that night, so please forgive me if I forget some names.
During the show, we provided our listeners lots of information about the life and the work of Giordano Bruno, we had a music quiz, we played parts of the interview we conducted with Jerry
Because some people missed it and/or because some others might want to listen to it again, I decided to upload the whole show on Prog n Roll's page on Mixcloud.
Cutillo and in general we had a blast! Everybody had a great time, including us.
Further than this Rock Opera, you will find many more special shows on our Mixcloud page, so take a look if you like.
