Hello everybody!
Last night I had one more Prog & Roll Radio show, but this time I had to run the show all by myself.
My co-host is still away, and I wasn't in the mood for inviting guests.
I tried to play mostly old stuff with the addition of a few new ones, and I think the result was fine. I had in mind to present a more melodic and mellow playlist, and that's exactly what I did. The result was 2 very pleasant and relaxing hours, with nice music and cool chating on the chatbox.

This must be the 5th time that the famous American band in visiting Greece.
I had the chance to see them on stage 3 times so far,and all the times they were excellent. My only
complain is that they never played 'Astronomy'. And maybe that was the reason that made me go once more. And I didn't regret it!
The band appeared on stage, and from the first song it seemed they are in great shape, despite their age. Their music driven by the leading duo of Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma was powerfull, and very well performed.
The first part of their setlist was based in the years between 1979-1983, but later on they returned to the 70's for good and played some of their greatest songs.
(Here I HAVE to mention the unbelievable 10-minute-long performance of 'The Last Days of May' with an extended breathtaking solo on guitar).
When they left the stage after almost 90 minutes, everybody (including me) was wondering if this time they will include 'Astromy' in the encore. After the first two songs of the encore, Eric Bloom is
reaching the microphone saying that 'now we will play a very old song, and we will try to do our best because we haven't done not even one rehearsal'. And at last it was the time for 'Astronomy'! Well, maybe it wasn't the best version I've ever heard, but only the feeling that you can see and listen (at last!) this song performed live in front of you it was enough.
When they left the stage for good after almost 2 hours, I think that almost everybody was satisfied to say the least.

A few days ago te American Power-Metal band Riot gave a live performance in a club in Athens.
Infortunately I wasn't able to be there and I can't give you a personal review of their show.
I read a few reviews, and as it seemed it was a really good concert.
Riot gave a very proffesional performance, and they played many of their old songs. They had a new singer which was excellent.

Last night I had one more Prog & Roll Radio Show on the internet radio station Just In Case Prog Radio.
Because my wife and co-host of the show is away for the moment on a trip, I thought of inviting some of the listeners to make the show together. I did it a couple of weeks ago, and it was a big sucess, so last night I did it again. I had two listeners as guests, known by the nicknames 'Bets' and 'Filaraki'. They picked most of the songs in the show, but further than that we played some parts from the special DJ Set named 'The 5 Ages of Rock' which I presented on Saturday's event in bar 'Aitna' in Athens. (I wrote about that event a post a couple of days ago).
By the name 'The 5 Ages of Rock' I meant the 5 decades of Rock music from 1964 until today. So I played songs from those 50 years, and from many different sub-categories of Rock music. (Psychedelia, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock etc).
On last night's show I played 4 parts of this DJ Set which was recorded... ;)

This week I listened to lots and lots of music, and from many different kinds. Because of tomorrow's
Prog & Roll radio show, but most importantly because I was preparing tonight's special DJ Set.
As you can understand it wasn't easy at all to choose only 5 songs. And to be honest I'm not so sure if these 5 songs are really the best of all. I guess not, but they are some of the best. (In my opinion at least).
So, without further delay, here's my Top-5 songs for this week:

Verbal Delirium is a very talented band from my homeland Greece.
Because I believe they really deserve more attention, I decided to write this post for all of you to take a look and learn a few things about this very interesting band.
They were formed in Athens in 1999, but in the first years they were trying to form up a steady line up, with many members coming and going and at the same time they were trying to evolve their own sound. In the year 2007 they released their first work which was a demo album named 'The Imprisoned words of Fear' in limited edition only. This album displays clear indications of the band's influences from the Progressive Rock scene of the '70's but it also includes elements of Jazz Rock and Heavy Metal as well. After that the band moved on, changed their sound to a more Alternative Rock style, but they kept some of the elements which did make a difference in their music, such as the beautiful melodies and the dark and melancholic atmosphere.
Their first official album was released in 2010 and Musea Records took over the distribution. The name of the album is 'So Close and yet so far Away' and it was a wonderful debut. Here they seem to leave the 'Rock' sound behind, and they pay more attention to the melancholic melodies I mentioned earlier, and they try to experiment with orchestration. The final result is satisfying and pleasant, to say the least. The band starts to become known in Greece, and very soon more and more people seemed to appreciate their music. They play numberless live in every possible place, trying to build up a good name. At the same time they start working more 'professionally' and a manager took over. The result was a significant number of live shows in Greece and Europe as well.
In 2013 they released their second album 'From the small Hours of Weakness' which is a darker, but maturer work. The production is very good, and almost all the tracks deserve your attention. The most famous song in this album (in Greece at least) could considered to be the really wonderful 'Sudden Winter', followed by 'Dance of the Dead', 'The Losing Game', 'Aeons' etc...
After the release of the album, the band goes to Europe for a few live gigs, including a performance in ProgPower Europe Festival in October of 2013.

Concluding this post, I have to say that Verbal Delirium is a very promising band, and I hope some of you will listen to them and spread the word around. The guys surely deserve it!

As many of you know already, on every Monday morning I'm writing here a post about Sunday night's Prog & Roll radio show, including the full playlist etc... Well today that's not gonna happen, because the show itself didn't happen. And it was really pity because it was going to be a nice one.
As I wrote in a previous post, I had 2 of our listeneres as guests, and we were preparing lots of great stuff. But because of some weird internet problems we couldn't finally do it.
At 20.00 CET we started the show as always, but the couldn't have a proper connection with the server. Therefore every 1-2 minutes the server was closing. For almost half hour we tried to fix the problem, but it was impossible, so we finaly stoped trying. I am really sorry for all those problems, and I really want to thank all of you who logged in and waited for half hour in case our show could start. It wasn't my fault, and all of us did our best to solve the problem. Thank you very much, and be sure I will try to make next Sunday's show a really wonderful one! :)
